Week 4

Hopefully this is going to finally work. My Micro-aquarium has come to be home to many new organisms. Sadly the plant life from the bottom of the dish is diminishing... hiding out in this material though i found a rather large midge. It would stretch out searching for food across at least a quarter of the aquarium. Also there were a bunch of cyclops larvae swimming around. Obviously with larvae you are bound to find some mature specimen and sure enough i saw three or four mature cyclops. The mature cyclops you could actually see with your naked eye swimming through the aquarium.

Week 3

Again life is flourishing even more than before. I'm seeing much more active behavior from the rotafers. As for the Ciliads they are still just aimlessly swimming around it seems :). The plants are continuing to thrive in their new habitats along with the organisms who feed off them. I am still having slight troubles with the picture resizing so I'm going to get help w/ that this week and the pictures should be up by the end of the week. Week 2

So it is now week two and more activity has come to be inside my aquarium. Alot more has started to grow through out the aquarium, what they are i'm not quite sure. There are long green spindley fibers that were not there last week. The plants are continuing to produce Leaf bladders and trap more organisms for food. Speaking of these organisms i was able to take more pictures of many of them. They will be posted as soon as the resizing works... some of the organisms i was able to picture were Rotifera, Desmud, Ostracod and Ciliates. The Rotifera - Epiphanes which can be found on page 183 of Guide to Micro Life by Kenneth G. Rainis and Bruce J. Russel were active eating things on and around the plants. There were also Shelled Rotifers moving around the plants and between plants looking for food. One neat thing i saw was a large gropu of Closterium (Desmud) surrounding and eating a dead Water Flea - Ostracod. Pictures of these two organisms can be seen in Guid to Micro Life as well on pages 136 and 220 respectively. Thats all for now but more to follow next week. Week 1

So the first week has passed since my micro-aquarium has been completed. This has given a chance for many organisms to become acquainted with their new home and environment. This being said i was able to see much more activity when looking at the aquarium. Due to a lack of my notes being in my hands i won't be able to give specific names until a later update this week. But i saw many new multi-celled organisms swimming around, feeding off plants and feeding off of other dead organisms. Also one of the plants has begun to exercise its right to eat by creating pouches in which organisms may enter but not leave, thus digesting and turning them into food and energy for the plants. I'll have more detailed information as soon as i find my notes.

week 0

in my microaquarium i used water from tank 6. I placed 2 different plants inside, one from dish A and one from dish B. Looking at it under the microscope i saw many different organisms. They were mainly around the plants from the two dishes, and around some of the ground cover from the tank. there were multiple multicelled organisms on the plant material, and a good few unicelluar organisms swimming between the two. The Unicellular organisms were very very active. Swimming sporadically from leaf to leaf and around the plants.
